|Description:||Four non-joining fragments of horizontal Doric geison, found together with the fragments of lion pediment S 1972 and many other pieces of poros, some probably belonging to one and some to the other, but corroded and not able to be joined. Further pieces of still different stone found with these make it hard to be sure whether or not lion and cornice are from same building. The forms of the cornice seem earlier than the style of the lion. Marks of the claw chisel are present on the lion and not on the cornice. In scale they seem appropriate for one another however.|
a) Preserves top, left edge, via with red color (probably half of via) next to joint, some of surface of mutule, and front face with simple rectangular offset above face of mutule.
b) Mended from two fragments. Preserves resting surface of block and adjacent face with band below mutules, painted red. Trace of corner of mutule broken away at right; at left face below via.
c) Preserves resting surface, right edge, band below mutule at left and space below via at right. Fragments b) and c) do not join but look as if they might belong close together. If so the mutule was a narrow one.
d) Preserves top and bottom and perhaps rough hewn back surface. The thickest, which corresponds to that calculated for the back part of the cornice block on the back of the fragments a), b) and c) is the only means of identifying this piece. The poros seem to be of the same kind.
