Description:   Title in red and black.
Tactica by Aelianus incorrectly attributed to Claudius Aelianus.
The Leonis Imp. Tactica, here translated by Johannes Checus, was compiled by Leo VI, the Wise. Cf. Oxford dict. of Byzantium. Sandys incorrectly ascribes authorship to Leo III, the Isaurian. Cf. Sandys, J. E. A history of classical scholarship, third ed., v. 1, p. 405. This work is sometimes confused with the Sylloge tacticorum, a later compilation.
Greek and Latin in parallel columns.
Both works entitled Tactica also issued separately the same year by Ludwig Elsevier.
Half-title of second work: Leonis imp. Tactica, siue, De re militari liber.
Binder's title: Aeliani et Leonis Imp. Tactica.
Printed by Johannes Balduin of Leiden. Date in colophon: 1612.
    Imprint date in roman numerals.
Printer's mark: l'Aigle; head- and tailpieces; initials.
    Numerous errors in paging.
At end of part 2 (Leo): Excudebat Ioannes Balduini, impensis Ludovici Elzeviri, 1612.
The Latin translation is that of John Cheke.
