Title:   Capital Fragments: Ionic: Painted

Description:   a) A fragment from the lower edge of the echinus, broken both sides and behind. The underside was finished with a toothed chisel. The egg and dart ornament was incised and painted. Of the paint only the stain remains.
b) A fragment found later, which gives a part of the painted echinus.
c) A third fragment, which gives the inner corner of one of the volutes, with part of the small lotus at the spring
d) A fourth fragment, which gives part of the inner line of the volutes.
e) A fifth fragment which gives part of the outer curve.
Excellent workmanship.
Marble.
Probably from the interior Ionic order of the Stoa of Zeus. Cf. Hesperia 2 (1933), p. 123, fig. 11.

Context:   Found overlying floor of Stoa of Zeus, to which building it probably belongs.
