Title: | Parapet Base Block
Category: | Architecture Marble
Description: | Complete except for chips. Large rectangular block with moldings at upper front edge; from top to bottom: a shallow cavetto, torus, scotia, torus and a cyma reversa. Top surface has a cutting apparently to receive a parapet. At the left, this cutting joins a larger cutting, apparently for a post. The post in turn abuts against a round column, the evidence for which is preserved in the curved end of the cutting for the post as well as an empolion cutting 0.06m. in on a side. Both ends of the block have anathyrosis. The back is left very rough, projecting as much as 0.08m. except for a smooth band at the top, with a second band below it, projecting out ca. 0.015m. White marble.
