Title:   Eaves Tile

Description:   Left edge, part of back edge, and part of top of front missing.
A large marble eaves-tile with slightly raised edges. Along the front was a high edge, ornamented with a pierced lion's head in the center. On either side of the head, a band of scrolls with cutout background, the scrolls themselves being flush with the front of the tile.
Assigned to the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion.
Pentelic (?) marble.
ADDENDA Very close to Island marble series A 1570; if marble is acceptable, must belong.
Context:   Marble pile, from S.W. corner of section.
