Base Of Closed Vessel.

Base, with half of edge missing; trace of lower wall preserved.

Flaring foot with broad, shallow groove in its outer face, giving it a faceted appearance. Vessel rests on outer edge of broad beveled surface with narrow groove just inside edge, glazed and with West Slope decoration: olive garland with leaves alternating with rows of four or five white dots. Within this is a raised disk, reserved, with five grooves. Center is recessed, glazed, with nipple. Lower wall is nearly vertical, with reserved band and shallow groove at bottom.

Shiny black glaze, inside unglazed except for drips.

For painted decoration on underside cf. 1072.
