Fragment of trefoil mouth, handle, neck, and start of body. Mended and strengthened with plaster. A small non-joining fragment with thin, streaky glaze on the inside also belongs. P.H. a) 0.12; Max. dim. b) 0.03. Choes and Anthesteria, p. 90, cat. no. 229, figs. 389--391.

On fragment a, all that remains is part of the ornament. At the top of the handle, an encircled palmette framed by two small half-palmettes (illustrated). Below, tongue pattern. On neck, frieze of upright encircled palmettes and lotuses (a bit of each). Reserved line for side frames. Fragment b preserves the capital and start of the shaft of an Ionic column; above, part of architrave. Preliminary sketch. Relief contour.

Workshop of the Tarquinia Painter [Green]. For a palmette at the top of the handle but without tongues and side palmettes, see Würzburg H 4937 by the Tarquinia Painter (ARV2 871, 95; Paralip. 426, 95; Addenda 300). Three others by this painter also have palmettes, both at the top of the handle and at its root, but I know them only from van Hoorn's description (Choes and Anthesteria, p. 125, sub 497 and 499: London, B.M. 96.6--21.2 [ ARV2 871, 92]; Copenhagen, Thor. 109 [ ARV2 871, 93]; Cab. Méd. 459 [ ARV2 871, 94]).
