Two non-joining fragments of shoulder and neck. Glaze fired brownish. Max. dim. a) 0.044, b) 0.04. Choes and Anthesteria, p. 88, cat. no. 215, fig. 393.

Warrior pursuing a woman. Fragment b (illustrated) shows part of the head of the fleeing woman, with hair flying; of the warrior just his Corinthian helmet pushed back and about half of his spear. Above, frieze of upright lotuses and palmettes. Fragment a gives more of the pattern. Relief contour.

Perhaps by the same hand as Oxford 1921.869 by the Eretria Painter (Green, BSA 66, 1971, p. 203, note 17; ARV2 1249, 18; Lezzi-Hafter, Eretria-Maler, p. 341, cat. no. 228, pl. 140:c). The ornament is quite similar, but not enough of the figures remains on 698 to be sure of the attribution.
