Lower part of wall of pyxis, start of tripartite foot. Glaze chipped on inside. P.H. 0.049; P.W. 0.15.

From left to right: lower drapery and foot of woman to right, facing a man or a youth (lower legs and feet) with a staff or spear (lower end). Behind him, the wheels and part of the box of a chariot to right. Behind the woman, something white. Below the figures, laurel wreath (a single row of leaves) to right.

A laurel wreath below the figures on a pyxis of Type A does not seem to occur too often. Here are some examples: Manchester, Univ. III.I.2, near the Painter of Brussels R 330 (ARV2 931, 2; Addenda 306); the namepiece of the Painter of Athens 17191 (ARV2 1222, ---, 1); Mainz 116 from the Oppenheimer Group (ARV2 1224, 2; Addenda 350); five unattributed pieces: 999; Bucharest 03231 (CVA, Bucarest 1 [Roumanie 1], pl. 32 [32]:3--7); New York, M.M.A. 06.1021.119 (Richter and Milne, Shapes and Names, fig. 140); Kanapitsa, no no. (Δελτ 22, 1967 [1968], pl. 164: α); Athens, no no. (Δελτ 25, 1970 [1972], pl. 63: α).
