Title: | Deep Bowl Fragment: Patterned | |
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | Rim of a skyphos. Dark red black on buff. ADDENDA 29 November 2017: One body fragment from Lot 478, layer VIII B (depth 10-12m). ADDENDA 2018: Nine sherds mended into three non-joining fragments of a deep bowl with short flaring rim and horizontal, round section handle. The exterior features a narrow rim band and Lefkandi banding below the handle zone. The handle zone has panelled decoration, including triglyphs with isolated semicircle fill. The interior is monochrome. The paint is evenly applied, fired matt unevenly red to dark brown. There are no traces of use-wear on the preserved portion. On the interior there is a circular darkened patch, which could be due to use as a lamp, but could also be from firing (although it is difficult to imagine how this would wind up being a circular patch in the middle of the bowl).
