Title:   Base Fragments

Description:   Inscribed statue base; Iliad base.
Put together from about sixty fragments.
Finished with drove in front face, with toothed chisel on lateral faces, fine picked on top, rough picked on back.
Left foot rested on a high mass of marble; right foot rested directly on plinth; statue and base being of one piece. The remaining fragment of the left foot is clad in a mocassin-like shoe fastened with a broad lace.
The front of the base is inscribed.
ADDENDA A left leg from the same context, 0.54m. height, wears a similar shoe, and though it does not join must come either from this statue or its companion pieces.
Notes:   The foot is stored in North Basement Architecture block 17-7.
Context:   Found in curbing of square Byzantine well near Pier 21, from west end of the Middle Stoa.
