Title:   Carnelian Part of Ring

Description:   Oval inset (seal) from bezel, bevelled.
Similar to J 110, but slightly smaller. Chip missing from lower left.
Intaglio: standing semi-draped female figure (Aphrodite) left, seen from three-quarters near. Her right hand is outstreched, holding a pomegranate. Her left elbow rests on a small column, the left hand apparently holding a long spear which passes diagonally in front of her. The barbed head rests on a shield which lies near her feet. The shaft has an ornamental end, with two double volutes.
Venus Victrix type.
Context:   Deposit of jewelry in hypocaust area of bath to east of Poros Building. Found with coins nos. 12-47, for the day.
