Title:   Red Figure Pelike: Kertch

Description:   Mended from many pieces; about one-third of the rim, the upper part of the front, and smaller pieces from the walls missing and restored in plaster. Moulded ring foot; flaring lip with downturned edge.
Lip bordered around the edge by a band of egg and dot. A similar band, wider, bounds the field, top and bottom, on both sides of the vase.
A: large horse's head, right; in front of the horse's head, a woman's head, veiled; behind this woman the upper part of another female figure; both facing right.
B: two cloaked figures, facing; one holding a mirror.
Drawing and painting rude and sketchy. Remains of white paint on the horse's bridle, the veil, the women's necks, with traces of dilute glaze overpainting, mostly gone. Glaze thin, mottled and flaking; inside glazed to shoulder.
