Title:   Jug: "Rhodian"

Description:   Intact except for missing handle, rim and chips from base. High, raised base ring; pear-shaped body merging in to wide high flaring neck. Single vertical band handle. Black zigzag between bands, above base; elaborate floral decoration on body; ring of dots between bands at neck; floral decoration continues on lip. Decoration outlined in black, and filled with color (blue, green); the petals of a ring of large tulip-like flowers and the centers of the smaller blossoms are done in relief in heavy added light red, apparently clay, not pigment. The colorless glaze which covers the rest of the decoration does not extend over these.
Grayish-white clay; white slip. Surface somewhat blackened from cesspool.
