Title:   Black Figure Lekythos

Description:   Mended from seven pieces. Mouth and handle complete but base chipped in the back, and considerable portions of the body missing including parts of the figured scene. The scene depicts Dionysos standing, facing right, toward a maenad. Surrounding satyrs dance right looking back. Glaze is badly flaked except for a patch including most of the maenad. Preserved are the white of her flesh with incised drawing of her features, her red fillet with incised border, her dress (chiton and himation hanging in folds from her raised left arm) with red collar and red and white dot ornaments. Red also for the beard of the left satyr and for a pair of lines around the glaze below the scene. Incision for interior details. On the shoulder of the vase, lotus-bud border around a collar of small strokes; the mouth was glazed inside and out, reserved on top. The base unglazed beneath and on the concave outer part.
