Title:   Black Figure Plate Fragment

Description:   From the wide out-turned rim of a plate. Preserved is most of an elongated seated sphinx wearing a polos. A band of glaze along outer edge of rim; widely spaced rays on underside. Blob rosettes for filling. Purple for sphinx's hair and part of wing, and for dots on body. Coarse incision for interior details and on one rosette.
Dark pinkish-buff clay; glaze flaked and worn and partially fired red.
Context:   Well I, middle fill.
