Title:   Black Figure Cup Fragment

Description:   Fragment from wall and rim of a cup with plain lip. Preserved is head of warrior to the left, with high-crested helmet; part of his shield(?) held in front of him, and of his spear passing behind his head. Opposed to him is an object which might be an opponent's shield; from its center a snake curves up to meet the black band which borders the zone; the boss of the shield extends toward the warrior. At extreme left, part of what appears to be a woman's face. Nonsense inscription in field. Purple for warrior's helmet and spot on shield. White for part of his garment, for circles on the second(?) shield, for face at left; incision for details, including tiny circles on the snake.
Pinkish-buff clay; good black glaze.
