Title:   Black Glaze Plate Fragment: Inscribed

Description:   Two large fragments made up of four and three pieces, respectively, give the complete profile of a flat plate with broad out-curved rim which merges below with a thin upright foot. The whole top of the plate is reserved save for three concentric circles in black glaze between which is the inscription, also in black glaze: <graphic>
Underside of the lip reserved. Within the thin ring foot (glazed inside) are four broad concentric grooves, black glazed, the center sunken but reserved with circle and dot.
The glaze is badly flaked especially on the top of the plate. The reserved parts show a fine finish (slip?).
Context:   Rectangular rockcut shaft.
