Title:   Pyxis with Black Figure Lid

Description:   Of the box, part of the upper wall missing, and chips from the base; of the lid, part of the top, and most of the sides missing. A small non-joining piece gives the lower edge of the lid. Restored in plaster. The bottom of the box is flat, projecting beyond the wall; a groove around the under surface; the high walls curve in at the top. The lid has a flat top and nearly vertical walls; the edge of the top projects slightly beyond the walls and is marked off by a groove.
The box is plain, unglazed. On the top of the lid, a swan, right; the edge of the lid glazed. On the sides, inverted palmettes hanging from a glazed band. The bird's plumage is dotted with white; a broad wing-stripe is red between two incised lines. The hearts of the palmettes and some petals are red; a circle of white dots around each heart.
