Title:   Black Figure Lekythos

Description:   Mended from many pieces; fragments of the wall and a good deal of its surface missing. Shoulder lekythos with flaring ring foot and flaring lip. Neck lightly inset from shoulder. On shoulder, palmette and a standing draped figure to either side. On body, at center, armed warrior, left, Corinthian helmet, greaves and shield (dolphin as device); two standing draped figures holding spears to either side of him, facing towards center. Some incision. Purple: line at edge of lip, at junction of neck and shoulder, and edge of foot; two lines at bottom of figured scene. On shoulder, alternating petals of palmette, and cloak(?) held out by both figures. On wall, for similar cloaks of draped figures and for helmet and greaves. White: for feathers forming crest of helmet, for dolphins, and for dots on garments of the two draped figures.
Lip outside of handle, lower part of body and top of foot glazed black; underside of foot reserved. Thin brownish wash prominent on reserved surfaces.
