Title:   Black Figure Skyphos Fragments
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Fragment of rim and side mended from five pieces. Preserved of the figured scene are most of the head and the upper part of the body of a flute player and the face, crown of the head, left shoulder and upper left arm of a man. The lower part of the flute player's arm has disappeared, except for a small fragment of the wrist; the flutes remain. The man on the left is bearded and nude; the flute player wears a chiton and has long "white" locks. Red is used on the beard and the forelock of the man, and for the pattern of the chiton of the woman. The white of the flesh of the woman is different from that of her hair, which has a yellowish tinge. Most of the flesh-white has flaked off; the paint of the hair is in better condition.
Good glaze on interior.
This fragment may go with P 1548. The artist responsible for these vases seems to have a preference for repeating the obverse design on the reverse.
