Title:   Black Figure Neck Amphora Fragments

Description:   Three fragments from the wall of a small neck-amphora.
a) Mended from seven pieces, preserves the wall from just above the shoulder curve to near the bottom of the lower border; start of band handle remains.
b) Mended from two pieces, gives a piece of the upper wall.
c) Also mended from two pieces, a piece of the lower wall, with part of the border and the tips of three base rays.
Assembly of gods: to left of handle, Dionysos seated right, looking back left, a drinking horn in his outstretched left hand. To right of handle, a female figure mounting a chariot (legs of three horses preserved); behind the horses, a standing draped figure. On fragment b) part of a draped woman, right, looking back left. Tendrils in field. The lower border, set off above and below by two glazed bands, consists of palmettes alternating with large white spirals (alternate palmettes reversed). White also for the women's flesh, for at least one horse, for groups of dots on Dionysos' cloak, and for the top edge of his drinking horn. Considerable incision.
