Title:   Panathenaic Amphora Fragments

Description:   Eleven non-joining fragments, some mended from several, preserving parts of obverse and reverse and a piece of the rim. Heavy incision; very poor glaze, black to red and much peeled, in many places leaving only a stain. Light red clay, rather coarse.
Obverse: a) and b) Athena right, the right arm and the head missing. White, yellowed over, for the flesh.
Reverse: Horseback race?
c) May be part of the column.
d) and e) Head and chest of horse.
f) Belly.
g) Foot of a rider with bit of horse near break above(?).
Also:
h) Uncertain wall fragment.
i) Piece from near shoulder?
j) Piece from near base.
k) Piece of spreading profiled rim.
Context:   Brown early Roman fill.
