Title:   Red Figure Amphora Fragment

Description:   From the wall of a closed pot. Herakles striding right. He wears the lion's skin over a short pleated chiton ornamented with small crosses. His left thigh is preserved and part of his right. One paw of the lion's skin hangs down between his legs, the fur indicated by dots; the other paw, hanging down on his opposite side is seen from the inside, and so not dotted. Relief contours. The reserved surfaces are mottled as if from some stain in making.
Scheme as on the Kleophrades Painter's cup, BGV, 11-12; note no glaze wash or drawing lines on ours.
Context:   Mixed fill over bedrock.
