Title:   Red Figure Oinochoe
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Mended from many pieces; the lip, handle, most of the upper part of the neck, and fragments of body and foot missing; restored in plaster. Missing from the figured scene, part of the body and arm and stick of the left-hand figure. Plump body; rounded ring foot. The figured scene bordered above by egg and dart, below by maeander and checkerboard; reserved line at either side. Komos: a wreathed bearded man in a himation walks to right, his head back, his lips parted in song, his right arm stretched out behind him with his stick. Two youths, with wreaths and fillets, follow: a lyre player, himation on his shoulders, his head inclined forward; and a nude youth with torch, oinochoe, and a box on his back.
Partial relief contour on all three. Dilute glaze for side locks and part of beard of man; side locks and back hair of lyre player, also his right knee and great trochanter. White for the fillets and torch flame. Traces of preliminary sketch on the bodies and legs of the youths, by which they had the left foot foremost.
Pinkish-buff clay. Glaze lustrous in parts but thin on neck above figured scene, and at back below handle: worn in places, including some figure-details. Thin wash inside.
