Title:   Moldmade Bowl

Description:   Profile nearly complete; about one-quarter of the rim preserved. Restored in plaster. Four rows of small grooved overlapping leaves around the medallion. Figured zone: at right, a mermaid, left, blowing on a conch(?) held in her right hand; in her outstretched left hand, an oinochoe. A petticoat of large leaves at the junction of the fish tail and her body. Perched on the curving loop of her tail at the back, Eros, playing the double flutes. Facing her, a tiger, one forepaw raised, head turned back left. Balancing by one arm on his back, and swinging a short thyrsos(?) in the other, a youthful nude figure. Beyond, at left of fragment, the mermaid again.
Patterned band below rim: guilloche, topped by reverse spirals with palmettes between. Scraped groove below out-turned rim.
Firm black glaze. Made from a good fresh mould.
Context:   Koukla factory fill, mixed to 1st. c. B.C. (Fill proper and fill of terrace to west.)
