Title:   Mug: Pheidias Shape

Description:   Much mended; small fragments missing. Very low ring foot, shallow grooved body, flaring rim and double rolled handle with shouldering. Nicked ridge at junction of neck and shoulder; stamped eggs and reversed palmettes at lower handle attachment; two small palmettes at bottom of handle space. Very light ribbing; around the bottom of the wall below the ribs a band of small punched circles.
Good black glaze over all except bottom, decorated with red glazed ring and dot at center and on lightly offset band just within foot.
Context:   Well, container 1, late 5th. c. B.C. with Hellenistic disturbance.
