Agora Object: P 20631
Inventory Number:   P 20631
Section Number:   ΣΤ' 659
Title:   Bowl Fragment
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Fragment preserves base intact and part of interior of bowl. Base solid, spool-shaped, with symmetrically concave sides; undersurface unsmoothed, the string-marks still visible. Deep cracks in bowl extend through sides into base. Glazed on interior except for irregular reserved spot in center. Exterior unglazed except for broad stripe around lower part of base. Glaze dull, black, now mostly peeled.
Probably originally intended to be a medium-sized conical foot, turned in one piece with the bowl, but improperly drawn in at the top, and wholly unturned beneath. Cf. similar stump base, probably an unfinished conical base on the one-handled cup, P 17436 (ΞΞ 207).
