Title:   Vessel Fragments with Paint Decoration

Description:   Five fragments, mended from ten, preserve parts of neck, rim and shoulder, and half of one double handle. Curve of shoulder not the same on fragments a) and b). Wide mouth; slightly flaring rim, its narrow vertical face undercut by a groove. A groove and ridge below mark the start of the sloping shoulder. Horizontal handle, heavily ridged on outer face.
Decoration in thin dull brownish-black glaze paint, with added white and purplish-red: black on the rim, the outside of the handle and for a broad band covering junction of neck and shoulder; a white band over the black above the neck ridge, another on the shoulder and a third at the top of the unglazed handle zone; red for a wavy line around the neck and for a larger scalloped band well in the handle zone.
Coarse pinkish clay, grayish at the core and with a yellow-buff surface, somewhat micaceous.
Non-joining fragments stored in tin with pithoi.
Non-Attic.
