Title:   Red Figure Lekythos Fragments

Description:   a) Four joining fragments preserve most of base and a small portion of the walls of a closed vessel. Ring foot, spreading above, rounded below; its inner face slopes up to meet underside of floor, which is slightly convex.
b) Four joining fragments preserve part of neck and shoulder, including a handle root. Round body. Flattish shoulder. Narrow neck, slightly concave. Handle segmental in section, rooted in neck and shoulder.
There were apparently two figure scenes. Parts are preserved of the upper and lower borders, together with the left leg and part of the himation of a male figure running right. No relief contours. The lower border consists of stopped maeander punctuated by a cross square. The upper border is an egg and dot pattern. A low projecting ridge separates it from the shoulder above.
Soft buff clay; mica specks. Black glaze partly fired red. The interior and the undersurface are unglazed, but bear traces of a wash in pale white.
