Title:   Openwork Stand Fragment

Description:   Fragmentary stand, mended from many pieces. Several non-joining fragments. Wall thickening near top indicating that it is near joint(?). Flaring base, offset by groove. Stand divided horizontally into three sections by two other grooves. Openwork consisting of long slots, with those of the bottom and top sections in line, and that of the middle section in between. On bottom section, in one panel, large motif composed of a curving line ending above in a spiral at either side, inturned; the spirals joined by lines. Row of dots diagonally across ornament. Man on horse to right, in second panel; he seems to float above horse with one long leg visible below horse's belly. Has spear and plume. Horse is striding; head missing but part of rein(?) visible in front. Figures on third panel indistinguishable; vertical rows of dots visible. Filling ornament of dot rosettes. Second and third section worn; but vestiges of spirals and dot rosettes remain.
Pinkish-buff clay; slight impurities; thin fabric. Red glaze very worn.
