Title:   Black Figure Neck Amphora

Description:   Intact, except for chips. Foot in the shape of inverted echinus with a rather wide groove near the edge; globular body; flaring mouth ridged in three degrees; band handles with concave upper surface. At join of neck, heavy moulding; nothing at join of foot.
Panel decoration: unframed tongues above.
Side A: man seated right on a diphros; he wears chiton and himation. Behind him stands a naked youth having his left arm wrapt in a himation. On each side one woman in Ionic chiton, belted himation and fillet.
Side B: wreathed man, seated right on diphros, holding scepter. In front of him stands a woman, holding a flower; she wears patterned Ionic chiton, belted himation and fillet.
Much use of white and red-mauve, colors fairly well preserved. Red lines: one inside rim, three at neck, a pair below pictures all around the vase; red is also the lower degree of the mouth.
Buff-pinkish clay. Thin dull glaze unevenly fired and worn.
Context:   Well in Stoa Shop III.
