Title:   Black Figure Neck Amphora Fragment

Description:   Handle fragment; a little of the body preserved at the lower junction of the handle. Upper end broken away after start of curve to neck. Handle composed of a broad band bent outward along the edges so the section is concave-convex. It widens slightly toward the neck. The inside is painted with black glaze thinning to greenish-brown. The outside is decorated with a row of rosettes of which four and part of a fifth are preserved: silhouette in black glaze, on which the drawing is incised and purple applied on most of the petals. Row bordered by narrow bands of thin glaze. Below the lowest, a bit of the body pattern: double horizontal band of purple over row of black dots. Decoration hasty but effective.
Clay light red, micaceous.
