Title:   Moldmade Bowl

Description:   Complete except for chips; mended from many pieces and restored in plaster.
Medallion: rosette surrounded by ribbed leaves and scraped groove; around medallion a row of small swan-like birds, behind which spring two rows of triangular fronds; long-bearded masks between the fronds of the second row.
Middle zone: hunting scenes. A) Large lion charging right, pierced through the neck by a spear; he is being attacked from behind by a spearman wearing a cape, from in front by a spearman on a prancing horse. Both attackers in much smaller scale than lion. B) Stag leaping right looks back over his shoulder at a dog perched on his back; farther back stands a slinger who has let fly; between stag and slinger a second dog pursues a hare; man in smaller scale than his prey. C) Lion hunt A repeated. D) Slinger and dog pursuing hare of scene B, but no stag. Birds flying right, in field. Rich detail throughout, particularly on animals.
Rim pattern: band of alternating bearded masks and flying birds, surmounted by double spirals and palmettes.
Orange clay. Black to reddish-brown glaze.
