Title:   Red Figure Cup Fragments: Type B
Category:   Pottery
Description:   a) The larger fragment has one flat and one slightly concave side. On the concave side is the front part of a head in profile right, and his left shoulder and raised upper arm. Head perhaps that of a Satyr; round bald forehead, turned up nose, protruding lips and round chin. Over the temple hangs a curl, (vertical strip with coil in thin glaze, cf. P 235); another comes forward from left side of brow. Mouth rendered by dot set in from edge; eye and brow in relief lines.
Other side of fragment preserves thin corner part of circular decorative band in black glaze grooved near its outer edge and surrounded by a narrow band of thin glaze. Outside this, part of some uncertain figures or ornaments.
b) The smaller fragment is also slightly concave on one side. It is too small for much to be made of the representation, except that the flat side preserves ornamentation similar to that of flat side of fragment a): central circle or broad band in black glaze; traces of some ornamentation around outside.
Attic clay.
