Description: | Mended from many pieces and restored in plaster. Simple foot with flat underside; slightly uneven ovoid body. Strap handles, profiled lip. Two lines below belly; shoulder is main area of decoration. Three bands at bottom. Above these on each side are two spirals. On handles, a cross, which continues down ending in a loop on either side of handle. Band on inside and outside of lip. Submycenaean. Brown glaze. Pale yellow clay. Cf. Styrenius (1967), Submycenaean Studies, fig. 50. ADDENDA V. Desborough has seen this vase and suggests a date in the 11th c. | |
