Title:   Amphora Fragments with Graffito

Description:   a) Fragment of neck, mouth and handle of a large amphora. Neck narrows to rolled, nearly horizontal lip; wide handles, nearly ovoid in section, rise steeply over mouth.
b) Non-joining fragment of neck and shoulder. Shoulder narrowly grooved and occasionally smeared while still wet.

Grafitto on shoulder: <graphic>
Unglazed.
Clay a soft buff (7.51/R 7/3) with a few small dark and large white inclusions. Surface pitted, apparently where organic material (e.g. straw) was intermixed with the clay.
