Title:   Black Figure Amphora Fragment

Description:   Mended from numerous fragments to make up the foot (b), (c) and lower wall (a) of a large closed vessel. The two sections join but have not been glued because contact area is so slight.
Thick torus foot rising on underside to rounded bottom of vessel. Band around lower body reserved and decorated with black leaves or rays 0.04m. high. Black band 0.08m. above, surmounted by a reserved area decorated with a frieze of human figures (feet only preserved) and a crouching feline figure, all facing right, done in black glaze with incision. Lower half and underside of foot reserved. Four lead clamps represent ancient repair, holding foot to body. Peeling black glaze, unglazed inside.
Attic clay, several large white inclusions.
Context:   Well.
