Title:   Potter's Test Piece Fragment

Description:   Single fragment preserving small portion of test piece. Fragment cut from the shoulder, at junction with neck, of a large closed vessel, probably an amphora. No clear edges preserved, though some of the breaks seem very regular. Preserved paint on interior and exterior thickly applied, fired black. Exterior canonically decorated: broad band at juncture of shoulder and neck, below which is outer arc of compass-drawn circles. To right, vertical wavy line and four vertical stripes (necklace pattern). Paint on interior worn, and mostly flaked; interior painted solidly, except for upper part of fragment (non-canonical).
Clay core fired light gray, close to 7.5YR N7; reserved surface on exterior fired closer to pinkish-white and pinkish-gray 7.5YR 8/2-7/2.
