Title:   Black Figure Neck Amphora

Description:   Fragmentary; restored in plaster. No direct join between the base fragments and the more complete upper part. Restored in plaster. A small bit only of the lip reserved. The inside glazed to ca. 0.055m. below the lip. Below unglazed. On the inner face of the lip, a procession of sirens(?), left, one reserved. On the vertical face, parallel stripes. Neck: a siren left on each side; below one handle a small water bird; below the other, a rosette. Handles: three large incised rosettes, separated by double brown stripes.
Body: two zones of animals, separated by a triple row of dots. A band of broad rays above the spreading foot.
A: Upper zone: siren(?) with spread wings, between two sphinxes. Below, two panthers, facing.
B: Two sphinxes facing. Below, two sphinxes, tail to tail, each facing another below the handles.
Brown wash over the clay. Free incision, and free use of accessory red on wings, tails, rumps and crowns, and on the rosettes.
Notes:   H 8-10(?) on card. (SD). No, this trench is β, inside Metroon; from these trenches only "footing trench of period IV" is part of H 8-10.
