Title:   Red Figure Skyphos Fragment: Type A
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Mended from thirteen pieces. The bottom with projecting massive ring base is complete save minor chips. The moderate curve of the sides suggest a skyphos outline. Of principal scene, fragment preserves legs of two standing and one seated figure grouped about a lion-footed basin, the central (standing) one in long drapery, perhaps female; the other two provided with staffs; to left another draped figure. Behind and to left, a step. Reverse, parts preserved of two standing figures in long drapery. Below the figured scenes, maeander band.
Imperfect firing: glaze inside entirely red as is also lower part of outside. Traces of smeary red substance on figures. Fine work.
See Caskey, p. 155, no. 112 for skyphos on nearly this scale.
