Title:   Red Figure Column Krater Fragments
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Four fragments from a column krater.
a) Preserves a bit of the neck to the rim, the neck ornamented with a band of bud and dot pattern; and the start of the wall with the upper left corner of the decorated panel. Borders: tongue pattern above; ivy band at side. In the panel, the head and left shoulder of a silen looking right, his left hand upraised. Branches in the field behind.
b) A fragment from the shoulder. At the left, the head of a silen bent forward right; lower part missing. At the right, a silen with bald forehead, looking left, brandishing an uprooted tree in his left hand, extended behind him to the right. Between the two figures, two large leaves(?) in the field.
c) and d) are neck fragments.
The hair outlines reserved. Relief contours; rather more careful in b) than on a) where they are not used around the silen's ear or hand. Red for the leaves of the branches on both a) and b). Traces of a red line at the base of the neck.
Glazed inside except under shoulder. No trace of burning.
If from the same pot, then perhaps from obv. and rev.? Glaze on b) rather better; line of glaze inside not the same.
