Title:   Black Glaze Mug: Stamped and Ribbed

Description:   Mended from many pieces. Part of wall, handle, base, missing; restored in plaster. Very low foot ring, sharply set off from wall; squat body; low neck with flaring lip; vertical double handle. Body with vertical flat ribs, in groups of two narrow ones and a broad one. Neck set off from shoulder by a narrow ridge, beaded. On each broad rib or panel, a stamped pattern: a single palmette hangs from groove at top; below it two upright palmettes, above a band of four doric leaves, from below which again hangs a single palmette.
Black glaze, inside and out, partly fired red and much worn in places. Reserved: bottom of foot, except inner side of foot ring, and a circle and dot in center.
Context:   Well, lower fill.
