Description: | Back part of small head, broken at base of neck. From a high relief, left side of the head broken off. Hair of head at front rendered in narrow ridges marked off by a groove from the back part, which shows crinkled wavy locks gathered into a shallow plain knot at the nape. At the left side (close to the relief background) the waves are not fully worked. Altar of Ares Series? Pentelic marble. S 400 is a non-joining fragment of same head. They have been put together with plaster. Cf. S 320, S 1072, and S 1078 for similar scale figures in high relief, from this area. Cf. Hesperia 21 (1952) p. 94. Drilled for setting on base 1951. | |
