Title: | Draped Seated Figure Fragment
Category: | Sculpture | |
Description: | Seems to be a fragment from the right thigh of a seated figure. Under surface is a curved joint surface carefully dressed with fine claw chisel as if the figure and seat were in separate pieces. Otherwise broken all around. Back break worn as if from being walked on. The figure faced right and seems intended to be seen from the right side. A himation is wrapped around the legs. There are traces of a hand or object that rested in the lap and is broken away. Suggests a pedimental figure. Good work of ca. 430-410 B.C. Pentelic marble.
