Title:   Herm Head Fragment
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   A male head, greater than life, broken off at the root of the neck, its face missing. A small fragment shows the finished side of the herm at the shoulders.
The hair is drawn down from the crown regularly on all sides. Down the back it falls in six heavy tresses. Above the forehead is a heavy roll. The ends of the forelocks being drawn back and passed under a narrow circlet. In the locks in front of the ears are holes for attachment of metal(?). Bearded face.
Pentelic marble.
Context:   Stoa Pit E, embedded in late filling along the north edge of the late well, its underside at the level of the preserved top of the foundation of the Great Limestone Building. Turned face down, top of head toward S.W.
