Title:   Tripod Base with Figures in Relief
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Broken at the top, and chipped on sides and bottom. The sides are concave, with roughly dressed fillets between them, in the lower part of each of these, a cutting for setting something. A bit of bronze on the edge projecting between faces A and C suggests that tripod legs were set against the fillets.
A line of whitewash, 0.09m. from the bottom, shows the line of the floor in which the base was found.
A. Dionysos, advancing left, wrapped in an himation with his left hand on his hip, and a thyrsos in his right.
B. Herakles (?), nude, advancing right with his right hand bent to his hip, and his left, covered with a chlamys, holding a knotted club.
C. Maened to right, holding in her right hand a cymbal or patera (?), her left uplifted. She wears a chiton with long overfold, high girt, and with hanging points
Neo-Attic, carefully executed.
Pentelic marble.
The whitewash mostly removed in cleaning 1956. Traces left and its position indicated by darkness of marble.
