Title:   Nude Male Figure Fragments
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Nude male figure, mended from many fragments; many other non-joining pieces preserved. Head, arms, right shoulder, side and back, left hip and leg, and right leg below knee, now missing. Pieces of these are preserved.
The figure is in a striding position with weight forward on right leg, which must have been bent slightly at the knee. The left leg was also bent slightly at the knee (preserved as a non-joining fragment). The left arm was bent slightly at the elbow and probably hung down at the side and slightly to the back as indicated by the treatment of the left shoulder, the right arm being bent at the elbow and held forward as would be natural in a striding figure.
The muscles of the chest and abdomen are treated in a broad and simple manner, with the play of muscles under the skin indicated but not exaggerated. The roll of flesh around the kneecap is shown. The back has a pronounced curve ant the buttocks are prominent.
The surface is badly preserved in parts and on the left side, below the arm, has been damaged by a shallow circular cutting.
Pentelic marble.
