Context:   57

Date:   2006/05/18
Lot:   Lot 2006-018
Stratum:   Fill of grave. Medium reddish brown silty clay with 25% pebbles and 15% cobbles, loose.
Notes:   B 57 is the removal of the two pots found in B 56. However, during excavation we came down upon a third pot, which is under-fired and therefore crumbly (is it a pot?, stored with the lot, Lot-2006-18). Also during excavation we came across what appears to be the top of the sarcophagus along with its east side. The lid is at a lower elevation than the top of the slab, but the bottoms of both appear to be the same. The sarcophagus appears to go into our baulk south of wall 215 and our baulk under wall 293. We stopped excavating when we came down upon whitish, sandy soil against the sarcophagus. See pg. 109 for top plan.
