Notes:   This basket is a continuation of basket 91, begun after an arbitrary stop. In the first pass, a miniature lamp with evidence of burning at the nozzle was discovered at E 410.73, N 975.57, elevation 89.28. In the second pass, just before the bottom of the cistern, a bronze coin was found at E 410.91, N 975.82, elevation 89.21. Another coin, on the bottom of the cistern floor was found at E 410.46, N 975.91, elevation 89.20. Three more coins were found in quick succession, the first at E 410.39, N 975.63, elevation 89.21; the second at E 410.51, N 975.62, elevation 89.20; the third was found at E 410.35, N 975.62, elevation 89.20. These were all on the floor of the cistern. Another coin was found at E 411.44, N 975.21, elevation 89.23, on the cistern floor. Two passes were taken in this basket to reach the bottom surface of the cistern. We believe that the cistern represents one fill as we were unable to find a use fill. Charcoal chunks with ashy-like soil, mudbrick chunks, small roof tile fragments, iron slag and cobble to boulder sized rocks continued to appear throughout the entire basket. The only significant difference observed in this basket was a significant amount of light yellowish gray clay chunks. We only encountered this marl like substance in this basket; this clay was more prevalent in the second pass than in the first. The clay resembles the typical light gray clay source near Acrocorinth. Guy Sanders stated that this clay is used unbaked in floors or in roofs. It seems that these clay chunks were thrown into the cistern at the same time as the rest of the fill. One-half to three-quarter of a zembil of roof tiles and cement lining was collected in this basket. Most of the pieces were small but there was one extremely large tile fragment (L.=45 cm) which appears at the top of the Basket 92 sketch (see notebook page 168). Small finds included bone, shell, two loomweights which are stamped, corroded bronze, lamp fragments, iron nail fragments and an olive pit. It is interesting that five bronze coins (see above) were found on the bottom surface of the cistern, however the consistant nature of both our finds and the soil indicates only cistern fill and no use fill. All soil was dry sieved except for two bags of soil collected for water sieving.
